Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have joined global tributes following the death of Spanish footballer Jesus de Miguel.
The 30-year-old Tenerife striker died on Tuesday, a day after suffering a cardiac arrest during a second-tier match.
The Argentine and Portuguese superstars shared condolence messages on Instagram following news of the player's death.
The Segunda Division fixture against Andorra was abandoned seven minutes into stoppage time after De Miguel collapsed following a collision with visiting goalkeeper Jesus Owono.
Owono had rushed out of his penalty area to clear a long ball when his knee struck De Miguel in the chest, leaving the forward requiring urgent medical attention.
Spanish police have since opened proceedings into the incident in connection with a possible involuntary manslaughter charge, according to a National Police source.
