FOOTBALL – MUHARRAQ announced last night the signing of Portuguese tactician Helder Cristovao as the new head coach of their senior men’s football team.
The 55-year-old former player is taking over the post vacated by Bahraini Issa Saadoun, who was dismissed earlier this month after Muharraq scored just one point from two matches to begin the 2026-27 Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier Football League.
Mohammed Adnan Ayoub was named the interim coach prior to Cristovao being officially appointed yesterday
Cristovao has many years’ experience in coaching, having held managerial roles with Saudi Pro League clubs Al Nassr, Al Ettifaq, and Al Hazem, DAC Dunajska Streda of Slovakia, and with Portuguese sides Estoril, Benfica, and Portimonense.
