HORSERACING – NIGHT Lantern lifted the Bahrain Jewellery Centre Cup last night to headline meeting 15 this 2025-26 season at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
In attendance during yesterday’s event were Supreme Council for Environment vice-president, REHC High Committee deputy chairman, and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports member Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa; Supreme Council for Women member Dr Shaikha Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa; and General Sports Authority deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.
Night Lantern won the 1,400m race, offering a BD4,000 total prize purse, for owners M and E Racing and trainer Paul Smith. The five-year-old mare was ridden by jockey Luciano Emanuel Cabrera, and they claimed a dominant win by five-and-three-quarters’ length ahead of runner-up Khazzama, competing for Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, Robert McDowall, and Benoit De La Sayette. Jbarah was third for Al Afoo Racing, Jaber Ramadhan, and Jefferson Smith, while December came fourth for Al Mohamediya Racing, Ali Abdulmajeed, and Hasan Al Saffar.
Also yesterday, Lord Montague won The Supreme Council for Women Cup. The Al Adiyat Racing-owned horse triumphed in the 1,600m, BD3,000 event for trainers Daniel and Claire Kubler with Ebrahim Nader in the saddle.
Mr Irrelevant came second for Al Mohamediya Racing, Fawzi Nass, and Soufiane Saadi; while Asimov was third for Afoo, Ramadhan, and Mirko Sanna. Love is the Law completed the top four for Fox and Badger Racing, George Scott, and De La Sayette.
Competizione won The Turkish Airlines Cup for Afoo, Ramadhan, and De La Sayette. They took the 1,400m race and the lion’s share of the BD3,000 prize ahead of Jehangeer, racing for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Hussain Asghar. Mearall came third for the Mohamediya-Nass-Saadi triumvirate, while Cover Point was fourth for Afoo, Ramadhan, and Nader.
Also last night, Mahrousa secured the Annoushka Jewellery Cup, competing for Shaikh Hamad and McDowall, with Hamed Abdulnabi in the saddle.
The race covered 2,200m with BD3,000 on offer, and Mahrousa narrowly won by a head’s margin from Miss Yvonne, racing for Mohamed, Abdulmajeed, and Qasim Jameel. Mawood was third for Mohamediya, Mohamed Hasan, and Hussain Mohamed, while Glen Savage came fourth for Al Mallah Racing, Abduljaleel Al Mallah, and Ali Isa.
