FOOTBALL – Bahrain take on hosts Myanmar today in their concluding fixture of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers.
The two teams are in Group C in their qualification campaign, and both – along with Turkmenistan – are already out of the running for a spot in next year’s tournament finals in Australia. That berth has been secured by Bangladesh, who head into today’s concluding match day having already assured themselves of first place in their division with two wins from as many outings.
The Bahrainis and Myanmar clash at 12.30pm, Bahrain time, at Thuwunna Stadium in the city of Yangon in Myanmar.
The nationals lost their opening game to Bangladesh 0-7 but then salvaged a point with a late 2-2 draw against Turkmenistan in their second assignment. They now hope to close out the competition on a winning note against Myanmar, who have a win and a loss from their matches.
Bangladesh and Turkmenistan face off in today’s other divisional fixture.
Bahrain head coach Mohammed Adnan has a 21-player squad in Yangon that includes Hessa Alisa, Leleya Sabkar, Eman Alkhattal, Fatema Alnesuf, Rawan Alali, Amira Sowar, Alyaa Almudhahki, Manar Yaqoob, Sama Qasem, Manayer Ahmed Thani, Farah Khaled, Alanood Almannaei, Shooq Mohamed Fares, Eman Ramadhan, Jawaher Leqmani, Ameena Aldoseri, Fatema Mohamed Salman, Noora Marzooq, and goalkeepers Khulood Abdulla, Shooq Alalwani, and Yasmeen Al Yaqoobi.
There are eight groups of qualifying with each hosting teams at a centralised location across the continent. All eight group winners will book their tickets to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 to join hosts Australia along with China, South Korea, and Japan, who were the top three from the tournament’s previous edition held in 2022.
