SHOOTING – BAHRAIN’S Tammar Alwatt put in a sensational performance yesterday to climb to the top of the qualifying standings in the skeet men’s individual competition in shooting at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Alwatt had a perfect outing in the third and fourth rounds of qualification, hitting all 50 targets to improve to a total of 96 with one round to go at Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery.
His flawless outing earned him the number one spot with three others also on 96 totals, including Anant Jeet Singh Naruka of India, Meng-Yuan Lee of Chinese Taipei, and Jianlin Lyu of China.
A total of 43 competitors are competing in the event, which now heads into its fifth and concluding stage, featuring 25 targets.
It is scheduled for a 4am start today, setting up the qualifiers to the medal round, which will be held at 12noon. Both times are Bahrain.
Also yesterday, Bahrain’s Maryam Hassani and Maryam Alasam continued their qualifying bids in the skeet women’s individual event, being held at the same venue.
Hassani improved to a total of 82 after hitting 41 of her 50 targets yesterday in the third and fourth rounds – matching her score from the previous two stages.
Alasam hit 42 of her 50 targets yesterday for a total of 77 after improving on her day one performance of 35.
The Bahraini pair will also be competing in their final round today, also at 4am. Their final is then scheduled for 8.30am, both Bahrain time.
