CYCLING – Husain Mohamed was the top finisher for Bahrain’s senior men’s cycling national team yesterday in the second edition of the Dhofar Classic, held in Oman.
Mohamed claimed 36th place overall from 78 competitors after 98 kilometres of racing.
He was 15 minutes and 31 seconds behind race winner Eduardo Sepulveda of Li Ning Star, who took the one-day event in 2:11:22.
Bahrain’s three other riders finished together in a small group, with Mahdi Kadhem, Ahmed Madan, and Mohamed Alqais going 45th to 47th, respectively, just under 17-and-a-half minutes from the victor.
The quartet will now shift their focus to another elite men’s international road race in Oman – the four-stage Tour of Salalah, which gets underway today and continues until Wednesday.
The kingdom’s squad is also expected to feature Sayed Ahmed Khalil in the event, which will be held across a total distance of 496km.
Both races are part of this year’s Union Cycliste Internationale’s Asia Tour.
