CYCLING – Team Bahrain Victorious riders Jakob Omrzel and Santiago Buitrago both placed in the top 20 yesterday in the sixth stage of the 81st La Vuelta a Espana – international cycling’s third and final grand tour of the 2026 season.
Omrzel from Slovenia and Buitrago from Colombia finished together in 18th and 19th, respectively, as part of a group that was nearly four minutes behind Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates, who took the 177.4-kilometre leg in four hours 12 minutes and 40 seconds.
Among their teammates, Hungarian Attila Valter finished 39th, Spaniards Pau Miquel and Pello Bilbao were 70th and 74th, respectively, Dutchman Mathijs Paasschens was 130th, and Slovenians Matevz Govekar and Roman Ermakov came 152nd and 166th.
With yesterday’s results, Omrzel climbed to 15th as Bahrain Victorious’ best rider on the general classification while he also rose four places to fourth in the best young rider rankings.
This year’s 21-stage Vuelta a Espana continues today with the seventh leg, covering 149.8km.
