CYCLING – Bahrain Victorious Development Team rider Thomas Capra claimed a fine runner-up finish yesterday in the third stage of the 62nd Tour de l’Avenir in France.
The Italian also climbed seven places to the top of the points standings with four stages still to go in the under-23 elite men’s road race.
Capra completed yesterday’s 230.9-kilometre leg just behind winner and fellow-Italian Davide Stella of UAE Team Emirates Gen Z, who triumphed at the head of a bunch sprint in four hours 57 minutes and 47 seconds.
Capra took second place for the second straight stage.
He was also right behind Keije Solen of Lotto-Groupe Wanty in the 116.3km second leg on Friday.
Amongst the other Bahrain Victorious Development Team riders yesterday, Hungarian Balint Feldhoffer finished 38th, Finn Kasper Borremans was 45th, Pole Jan Michal Jackowiak was 50th, and Austrian Valentin Hofer finished 77th from nearly 140 competitors.
Capra tops the points rankings with 40 markers – two ahead of Dawid Lewandowski of Poland’s national team.
The race continues today with the fourth stage, set to cover 150.8km.
