Customs officers at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi have apprehended a passenger arriving from Jeddah who attempted to smuggle gold concealed inside the tyres of an electric scooter. The passenger was travelling on a flight to Mumbai before proceeding to Delhi.
The passenger had checked an electric scooter into his baggage, which raised suspicions during X-ray screening. Although he did not trigger any alarms while passing through security, officers decided to inspect the scooter more closely.
Upon examination, they discovered 19 pieces of 24-carat gold weighing a total of 869.5 grams hidden inside the tyres.
The investigation is ongoing.
