CYCLING – BAHRAIN Victorious Development Team rider Seth Dunwoody narrowly missed out on the podium yesterday after placing fifth in the second stage of the 49th Giro d’Italia Next Gen.
The elite under-23 men’s road race continued with a 154-kilometre leg that featured a large bunch sprint to the finish, which was spearheaded by Davide Donati of Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe Rookies.
Dunwoody was not far behind as he was classified with the same fishing time.
Aside from the Irishman, Bahrain Victorious Development Team’s other riders also trailed closely in the peloton.
Italian Leonardo Consolidani came 40th for the kingdom’s squad while Pole Jan Michal Jackowiak was 47th. Austrian Valentin Hofer came 65th, Finn Kasper Borremans was 81st, and Hungarian Balint Feldhoffer finished 158th.
With yesterday’s results, Dunwoody climbed two places on the general classification to 11th – 14 seconds behind Donati, who is the overall leader. Dunwoody also rose to seventh on the points rankings while Jackowiak improved to ninth on the best young rider standings.
The eight-stage race continues today with the 166km third leg.
