CYCLING – TEAM Bahrain Victorious superstar Lenny Martinez held on to the white jersey for best young rider yesterday heading into today’s fifth and final stage in the 79th Tour de Romandie in Switzerland.
Martinez took 15th place yesterday in the 149.6-kilometre penultimate leg, which was enough for him to stay in first place amongst the race’s youth.
He holds a seven-second lead from Jorgen Nordhagen of Team Visma-Lease a Bike in those standings, and is also in a podium position for third in the general classification (GC), where he is nearly two minutes behind overall leader Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates-XRG.
Martinez was part of a trailing group yesterday that finished a minute and 47 seconds behind Pogacar, who won the race’s fourth stage in three hours 40 minutes and 24 seconds.
Damiano Caruso was Bahrain Victorious’ second-best finisher in 23rd, while Antonio Tiberi came 38th. Vlad van Mechelen was 62nd for the squad, Attila Valter finished 72nd, and Kamil Gradek was 74th. Robert Stannard rounded out the team’s members in yesterday’s stage rankings in 82nd.
The Tour de Romandie concludes today with the 178.2km final leg.
The UCI World Tour event will be coming to a close after 851.9km of racing across five stages.
