HANDBALL – HIS Majesty King Hamad received yesterday the players of the kingdom’s senior men’s handball national team at Al Safriya Palace.
The reception was held on the occasion of their victory in the 22nd Asian Men’s Handball Championship held in Kuwait, marking a first-ever title for Bahrain in the biennial competition.
The event was attended by His Majesty the King’s personal representative Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s humanitarian work and youth affairs representative and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and SCYS first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
His Majesty congratulated the national team on the achievement, commending their performance, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. His Majesty noted that the title reflects the advanced level reached by Bahraini handball and the continued progress of national sports.
His Majesty lauded the efforts of Shaikh Nasser and Shaikh Khalid in supporting sports and youth development, as well as the work of the Bahrain Handball Federation (BHF), led by BHF president Ali Isa Ishaqi, and the technical and administrative staff for their preparation and organisation.
His Majesty also commended the support of Bahraini fans, whose presence and encouragement contributed to the team’s success, and urged the players to maintain their level and continue striving for further achievements in upcoming competitions.
On the occasion, His Majesty directed that housing units be granted to members of the national handball team in appreciation of the achievement and in recognition of their contribution to raising Bahrain’s profile at the continental level.
The members of the national team, along with the technical and administrative staff, expressed their appreciation to His Majesty the King for the continued support, noting that such recognition serves as a strong incentive to pursue further success and represent the kingdom with distinction.
They also expressed appreciation for the support provided by Shaikh Nasser and Shaikh Khalid throughout the championship and during major tournaments held overseas.
