Indian singer and composer Arijit Singh, renowned for his soulful and iconic songs, has announced his retirement from playback singing.
In a statement released on his Instagram account, Singh said he will no longer be taking new assignments and thanked his fans for the love they had shown him over the years.
Playback singing is a technique used in South Asian films in which the vocalist records songs for the soundtrack, while the actors lip-sync the lyrics for the camera.
Singh’s music has been synonymous with modern Bollywood romance for over a decade, with chart-topping tracks such as 'Tum Hi Ho', 'Channa Mereya', 'Raabta' and 'Agar Tum Saath Ho'.
