Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan and Qatar have accepted invitations to join US President Donald Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’, the Saudi foreign ministry said in a joint statement that also included the UAE.
The statement added that each country will sign accession documents in accordance with its legal procedures.
Trump has invited dozens of world leaders to join his initiative aimed at resolving global conflicts, although diplomats say the move could harm the work of the United Nations.
Pope Leo is among world leaders invited to join the board, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s top diplomatic official, said in Rome.
Leo, the first US pope and a critic of some of Trump’s policies, is evaluating the invitation, he said.
The board was initially aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza, however Trump has said it will have a much broader remit and resolve conflicts globally.
