Heavy rain and strong winds yesterday destroyed parts of newly established and fragile camps in the Gaza Strip where hundreds of thousands of displaced people are sheltering due to the Israeli aggression on Gaza. Three Palestinians were also killed by Israeli fire.
Gaza Municipality confirmed that it is working around the clock to address the damage caused by the rain and to drain accumulated water, noting a shortage of equipment.
Umm Mohammed Awda, 45, who was displaced from northern Gaza to Al-Mawasi in the south, said: “The winds tore down our tent this morning, and we remained under the rain for hours. Everything we have got soaked.” Hundreds of thousands still live in fragile shelters, and tents were also damaged during a storm in December.
According to medical sources, a seven-day-old Palestinian newborn died yesterday morning due to the severe cold and low temperatures in Deir Al Balah in central Gaza.
Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that the death toll resulting from extreme cold in the Gaza Strip has exceeded 15.
